That longevity has only been possible because of the respect and care our clients show in protecting our copyrighted content.  We sincerely thank you for your continued diligence in following our Copyright Policy.  Without your integrity and support, we could not continue to exist and serve the profession.

Summary of Rights and Exceptions

All VTN Materials are protected by copyright and may not be copied, distributed, adapted, or reused in any form without written permission, except as specifically outlined under the exceptions below:

A.      Exception – Monthly Tax Update Article Sharing

Limited sharing of individual articles is permitted through the Subscriber’s Portal.  (See details under Section 3.)

B.      Exception – Promotional Products (e.g., Life in the Tax Lane, Webtips, LinkedIn Posts)

May be shared in their full, original, unaltered format and only for non-commercial, educational use. (See details under Section 4.)

C.      Exception – Brandable Products Subscription

Subscribers are granted specific commercial distribution rights with required branding, formatting and disclaimers.  (See details under Section 3.)

1.  Ownership and Scope of Protection

All materials created, developed, or distributed by VTN, whether accessed through www.videotax.com, members.videotax.com, or provided through any other publication or correspondence, are protected by Canadian and international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and moral rights laws. “Materials” includes, without limitation, all VTN content in any format or medium, including courses, seminars, newsletters, branded content, promotional materials relating to educational offerings, and any associated text, images, audio, animations, video files, software code, websites, mobile applications, e-learning modules, documents, presentations, recordings, graphics, databases, and derivative works. VTN retains all intellectual property rights in the Materials. No license is granted by access or purchase, whether express or implied. Any unauthorized use, reproduction, adaptation, or distribution of the Materials is unlawful and strictly prohibited.

2.  Permitted Use – Educational and Internal Purposes Only

The Materials are intended solely for use by accounting and financial professionals for educational or internal business reference purposes. Unless otherwise explicitly permitted in writing by VTN:

  • The Materials may not be used for commercial resale, redistribution, or public dissemination; and

  • Excerpts or summaries may not be republished or adapted for training, client distribution, or third-party platforms without prior consent.

3.  Licensed Products and Courses (Paid and Free)

A.     Authorized Users

Unless otherwise licensed:

  • All VTN Materials (paid or free) are for individual use only;

  • Only the named subscriber or registrant is permitted to access and use the Materials; and

  • Use by others, whether within the same office, firm, or organization, is not permitted unless a separate multi-user or firm-wide license has been obtained.

B.     Prohibited Uses (Unless Specifically Licensed)

The Materials may not be:

  • Shared internally or externally;

  • Duplicated, printed, or copied (physically or digitally); and/or

  • Uploaded to any intranet systems, document management platforms, or cloud-based storage that are accessible by other individuals.

These restrictions apply equally to both:

  • Paid content; and

  • Free offerings, including promotional materials and complimentary courses

Important: Free does not mean unrestricted. All VTN Materials, paid or free, are protected by copyright and subject to the same restrictions unless otherwise specified.

C.    Exception: Brandable Products Subscription

The following general permissions and prohibitions apply to subscribers of the Brandable Products:

Permitted:

  • Distribution of the Brandable Product (PDF format only) to all current and potential clients via email, mail, social media, or their website or blog; and

  • Modify select formats in line with VTN guidance on branding specifications.

Prohibited:

  • Sharing the unbranded Master File;

  • Distributing Word versions; and

  • Omitting required disclaimers.

D.    Exception: Monthly Tax Update Article Sharing

Subscribers may share individual Monthly Tax Update articles using the built-in secure sharing feature within the Subscriber's Portal.

Permitted:

  • Printing an article for internal use or client records; and

  • Forwarding a specific article to a client or colleague to support a direct conversation.

Prohibited:

  • Sharing the full newsletter or multiple articles without a proper license;

  • Posting Materials (full or partial) on websites, blogs, or intranet portals;

  • Mass distribution to clients or internal staff; and

  • Use in training, marketing, or resale contexts.

4.  Promotional Products and Resources

VTN offers certain products and resources at no cost for educational, promotional, or community-enrichment purposes which may include:

  • Life in the Tax Lane;

  • Webtips;

  • LinkedIn or social media posts; and

  • Excerpts, summaries, articles or newsletters.

Permitted Use – Strictly Limited

Unless explicitly licensed or accompanied by written sharing instructions, all Promotional Products and Resources are protected by copyright and may only be shared under the following conditions:

Permitted:

  • Life in the Tax Lane, Webtips, and select LinkedIn or social media posts may be shared in full, unaltered form and for non-commercial educational purposes only;

  • Content must retain:

    • All original disclaimers;

    • VTN logos; and

    • Proper VTN attribution;

  • Sharing must occur using:

    • The official link;

    • The original Source file; and

    • The authorized download format.

Prohibited:

  • Editing, excerpting, translating, or rebranding content;

  • Using free products to develop:

    • Training materials;

    • Guides; and

    • Courses;

  • Distributing free content as part of:

    • Paid services;

    • Advertising; and

    • Marketing campaigns;

Important: Promotional Products and Resources content is not public domain and is protected under the same legal standards as paid content.

5.  Prohibited Uses

Unless otherwise stated in Sections 3 and 4, above, or explicitly authorized by VTN in writing, users must not:

  • Reproduce, redistribute, republish, transmit, post, adapt, or publicly display the Materials in whole or in part;

  • Use bots, data mining software, or scraping tools to collect or replicate content;

  • Input, upload, or incorporate VTN Materials into:

    • Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) tools;

    • Machine learning (“ML”) systems;

    • Large language models (“LLMs”); or

    • Data training sets;

  • Use any VTN Materials to:

    • Train or develop AI, ML, or LLMs;

    • Generate derivative works using generative AI; or

    •  Analyze or summarize VTN content using AI for redistribution or publication;

  • Allow third parties to process VTN Materials using AI tools;

  • Modify or adapt VTN Materials for redistribution to staff, clients, or public audiences outside the permitted uses;

  • Use VTN Materials to create derivative products, guides, blogs, or educational tools; and

  • Share subscriber-only emails or notices (e.g. product updates, release alerts, emails sent directly by VTN). These communications are confidential and should not be forwarded or redistributed without written permission.

Important: No rights are granted to use VTN Materials for AI/ML purposes, regardless of whether such use is commercial, academic, or experimental.

6.  Monitoring, Enforcement, and Remedies

The following measures are in place to protect fairness for all subscribers and the long-term sustainability of our services.

VTN actively monitors use of the Materials through:

  • Watermarking;

  • Digital tracking/fingerprinting; and

  • Usage tracking tools.

In the event of unauthorized use, VTN may:

  • Immediately terminate subscriptions, licenses, or access without refund;

  • Issue invoices for damages or legal recovery;

  • Initiate legal action for statutory or actual damages; and

  • Notify third parties including platforms, regulators, licensing bodies.

  • Where possible, VTN may first attempt to resolve minor or unintentional violations informally before pursuing legal remedies.

7.  Reporting Infringement

If you suspect unauthorized use of VTN Materials, or believe your organization may have unintentionally violated this copyright policy, contact: info@videotax.com.

8. Updates to this Policy

We may update this Copyright Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. Any updates will be posted on our website, and continued use of our services after changes are posted will constitute your acceptance of the revised policy.
